The oral device called a mandibular advancing device is a mouthpiece that shifts the lower jaw forward and opens the bite slightly, which in turn opens up the airways. The mouthpiece is custom made from a patient’s own oral measurements. Several types of mandibular advancing device exist and each one works differently. Dr Carrière is able to recommend the model best suited for the patient’s mouth, the type of apnea and its utilisation.
